Bitcoin - The Currency of the Internet

A community dedicated to Bitcoin, the currency of the Internet. Bitcoin is a distributed, worldwide, decentralized digital money. Bitcoins are issued and managed without any central authority whatsoever: there is no government, company, or bank in charge of Bitcoin. You might be interested in Bitcoin if you like cryptography, distributed peer-to-peer systems, or economics. A large percentage of Bitcoin enthusiasts are libertarians, though people of all political philosophies are welcome.

I've been telling myself I'd do this a long time ago. After much procrastination, I'm finally doing it. One more Full Node will be joining the network shortly :)

Bitcoin node/Lightning nodes with 1tb storage capacity

Long question incoming, hopefully I can ask this clearly... I'll start with some background info that leads to my question... I have done some research, and I am finding conflicting information, so I am hoping someone here can give insight... many different sources put the current bitcoin node count at around 10,000. Other sources claim the count is closer to 100,000... For the Lightning network, 1ML shows that there are currently nearly 10,000 lightning nodes... the blockchain continues to grow as more blocks are mined, so more storage is always needed to run a full node. From my rough calculations, it seems that the blockchain is currently growing at a rate of ~45gb/yr. Source. The gb/yr growth rate seems to be increasing quite a bit year to year... so, my question... When will the blockchain surpass 1tb, and what happens to network security/all of the nodes using 1tb storage once the blockchain surpasses 1tb in size? Is the 1tb blockchain size milestone something to be concerned about?... I could be wrong, but I assume that many nodes, especially Lightning nodes, are using 1tb storage (assumption based on the popularity of Raspibolt, Raspiblitz, and Casa Node which all have 1tb storage.) The main chain might not be impacted (hard to say based on the conflicting node count information), but won't this lead to many LN nodes going down/channels being closed? Just something I've been curious about, I'd appreciate any thoughts on this question.
